How to Help Your Acne Treatment Products

Five things you are doing to make your acne worse.

One of the worst things about acne is that it can take a while to get rid of. Although most teenagers cringe at the mere mention of the possibility, acne can continue on until middle age. This causes a lot of people to become impatient, and spend lots of time and money looking for miracle acne fighting products that will cure them overnight. When this doesn’t work, some people try to find their own cures that can lead to worsened acne and possibly scarring.

While bad skin might not be able to be cured overnight, there are some great acne treatment products on the market that can really help. But, the best way for these to do their job is if they aren’t hindered by bad habits. So, if your acne fighting products aren’t working like you had hoped they would, here is a list of some of the things that you may be doing to limit their effectiveness:

Over-washing

Because you know that pimples are caused, in part, by excess oil on your skin, you might be tempted to wash your face every chance you get. This can make your acne worse. Stripping the oil from your skin only makes it produce oil faster, which causes more blockages.

Frequent exfoliation

Exfoliating your skin is great, but doing it daily can be very bad. Using grainy products can cause micro-cuts in your skin, which can cause irritation and inflammation. It is best to exfoliate one or two times a week.

Bad practice

If you have acne, bacteria is your enemy. It is thus important to make sure that you minimise the amounts of bacteria from which you are at risk. Bactria loves dirty, damp material, so you should always use a clean facecloth every time you wash your face, and dry it with a clean towel.

Squeezing pimples

It is best not to squeeze your pimples at all. But, if you are tempted, don’t simply do it with your fingers. The correct way to do this is to wash your hands, sterilise a needle, and then insert the needle gently into the white head from the side and pull outwards. This will minimise your chance of scarring.

Giving up

It is easy to chew through every product on the market and think that none work for you. The problem with this is that you’re not giving each product enough time to work. You need to stick with a product for at least a fortnight to see any real results. So, don’t give up so easily. Also, some products are very similar, so look for products with different ingredients if you feel that a change is absolutely necessary.

Eliminating these five bad practices won’t ensure that your acne disappears overnight, but it will go a long way to helping your acne treatment products work to their maximum effect.
