With all the skin care products available out there, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the choices. Honestly, if you used all the products you could possibly use every morning, you’d rival Snow White’s stepmother in time spent in front of the mirror.
But nobody wants that.
Skin care should be simple and natural, and it doesn’t get simpler or more natural than finding a couple of ingredients in your fridge for some extra TLC.
So without further ado, here are our favourite all-natural skin treatment recipes.
Avocado and Honey Mask
Honey is a natural antiseptic – even in ancient Egypt, it was used to treat wounds and skin ailments. Avocado, on the other hand, is rich in nearly twenty vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients, as well as being high in unsaturated fats. Combining a few teaspoons of honey with a quarter of a pulped avocado allows you to combine a cleanser with a moisturising treatment. A very gentle mask, this all-natural skin treatment is appropriate for any skin type. Leave it on your skin for ten to fifteen minutes and then rinse off with cool water for the best results.
Brewer’s Yeast Mask
Brewer’s Yeast is a very effective antiseptic, and lemon has a drying effect on blemishes, so this treatment is excellent if you have spots you want to get rid of quickly. Composed of a teaspoon of Brewer’s Yeast, a squirt of lemon, and a few teaspoons of water, this mask works best if left on the skin for at least ten minutes. You can apply it to your whole face or to a single spot, depending on your needs.
Cucumbers and Cream Mask
For itchy and irritated skin, rich cream or full cream Greek yoghurt both have an excellent calming effect. Mix together a tablespoon of cream or Greek yoghurt with a tablespoon of grated cucumber for the ultimate calming skin treatment. Cucumber, which contains both vitamin C and caffeic acid, helps to soothe irritated skin, and the rich coolness of the cream calms red, itchy areas.
Crushed Almond Lip Exfoliator
We’ve got some news. Almonds are not just a healthy, delicious snack. They also make an excellent, gentle exfoliator when crushed finely. Use a food processor to chop the almonds into fine bits (stopping before they become powdery) and then add a teaspoon of olive oil. Using your index finger, rub the exfoliant onto your lips gently, using a circular motion. This gets rid of dead skin cells, and, because almonds are so high in Vitamin E, leaves your lips luscious and smooth in minutes.
